  4. South African owned, Chinese-based QQ turns more profit than Facebook Posted in Mobile Take Away, Concocted by Fred Roed March 27, 2008 No comments

For those who don’t know, QQ is the Chinese version of mobile based IM services like Mxit, and is part-owned by South African publishing and digital giant, Naspers. Little known outside of China, the service has been called the biggest social media forum on the planet with over 300 million accounts. Not a bad investment for Naspers, and just a taste of the mobile revolution that’s currently impacting on marketing communications. Read Further

  13. Most Websites Are Designed Backwards – Seriously! Posted in Recipes for Success, Concocted by Paul Weingartz March 7, 2008 No comments

Typically site design (and redesign) starts with the home page, laboring over the look and feel. As designers wait for content, the site is built following standard formulas and the goal of selling a product or service often becomes secondary. Deadlines are missed somewhere between the unpredictability of the creative process and the struggle for content, and eventually the management command becomes an exasperated: “Get the site up and fix it later!” The all important conversion pages receive minimal attention. Sales are lacklustre. Visitors abandon early. This is when conversion experts get involved. Read Further
