  6. Obama’s campaign kicks ass Posted in Branding Online, Digital Strategy, Online Advertising, Concocted by Fred Roed October 20, 2008 No comments

    obama

Obama just kicked off the week with two killer pieces of digital marketing news. For those of you with heads in the sand, Barack Obama is leading the most pervasive, penetrative marketing campaign in political campaign history… and he’s centralised his strategy on a community-focused internet approach. 7. First Heavy Chef Session in Jozi: ‘Smoke, Mirrors and Social Media Part 1′ Posted in Heavy Chef News, Concocted by Fred Roed October 17, 2008 No comments

    heavy chef

Last night Mike, Louis and I presented to a crowd of hungry chefs at the stunning Twiice showroom in Jozi. The Session started inauspiciously with Mike and I getting lost on the way (Mike’s a crap driver), the ice arriving late, air-conditioning not working, traffic preventing half the attendants from coming and the wind preventing us from putting the blinds down to stop the glare through the massive picture windows. *Phew* Read Further

  9. New hope for SES* sufferers Posted in Digital Strategy, Concocted by Guest October 13, 2008 No comments

    Square Eye syndrome

Screens are just about everywhere - PC, laptop, cell phone, T.V, LCD or ATM. What challenges does this hold for online resources and for people who are compelled to use one or many on a daily basis and are at risk from SES ?

Maybe your customers suffer from SES – and you won’t even be aware of it until you go out of business. Read Further

  10. When wiki’s go wrong… Posted in Digital Strategy, Concocted by Fred Roed October 13, 2008 No comments

2 years ago, we at the World Wide Creative studio tried to enter a word into Wikipedia. I think it was something like ‘omnetymolgy‘ or ‘the study of words that continuously change their meaning‘. We were then going to encourage a friend to go and change the definition at will and pass the baton to the next guy – sort of like a social media chain mail. I think the post lasted around 5 minutes before it was gazumped by some Wikipedia nerd, alerted to the non-suitable content on his beloved forum. Read Further

  13. Welcome to the Knowledge Age Posted in Digital Strategy, Concocted by Guest October 9, 2008 No comments

    knowledge age

On my numerous flights up and down the country I have had the pleasure of sitting next to a range of interesting characters, and  as someone with a very low boredom threshold I generally start a conversation to make the time…fly.  The questions invariably lead to what you do for a crust, and as soon as a say I am engaged in trend forecasting I tend to get this question, “Oh, so what’s cool right now?”  With a straight face I reply with “Black”. 15. Introducing our newest chef: Nicholas Kuhne Posted in Heavy Chef News, Concocted by Fred Roed October 8, 2008 No comments

    nicholas kuhne

Today we’d like to welcome Nicholas Kuhne to the Heavy Chef’s kitchen.

Born in Bloemfontein (we didn’t hold that against him), Nicholas is an avid cricket player, marketer and youth trends analyst.

Nicholas is also highly regarded on the karaoke circuit and challenges anyone to better his version of ‘My Way’. This was partly the reason why we were so keen to have him in the mix. Read Further

    free coffee

Have you heard of Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company?

    Essentially, a company that sells… coffee..and…tea – you got that right ;) ?

Well, they launched a brilliant web campaign in the middle of this year to promote their new flavoured coffee range “Jamaican Me Crazy”.

The campaign was based on getting bloggers and techies-alike to ‘beta’-test Joffrey’s new range Read Further

  17. Two Heavy Chef Sessions in Johannesburg: “Smoke, Mirrors, Mobile and Social Media” Posted in Heavy Chef News, Concocted by Fred Roed October 7, 2008 No comments

[Note: Apologies for the incorrect dates previously - please note the correct dates below]

Do you get a nagging feeling that there’s a bit of overblown marketing hype going around at the moment?

I’m talking specifically about the ‘big two’ of digital marketing: Mobile and Social Media. These days, there is a new digital agency opening up on every corner, not unlike the days earlier this century when the property market was booming (just before it went ‘BOOM!’) and everyone was suddenly an Estate Agent. 20. Cartoons in web design Posted in Website Design, Concocted by Fred Roed October 1, 2008 No comments

If I wasn’t a web marketer, I’d be a cartoonist. In my previous life, I used to doodle on anything that was doodlable. Now, with the introduction of a mouse in my life, I’ve dropped the pen, so to speak. Every now and then, I see something that makes me really sit up and take notice. Today I saw the work of Noma Bar for the first time and am amazed by his skill and dexterity. He somehow managed to combine ruthless satire with extreme economy of line. Read Further
