  1. Review: Heavy Chef Session on Youth Marketing Posted in Heavy Chef News, Videos, Concocted by Yolandi Janse van Rensburg August 31, 2009

At the Heavy Chef Session last Wednesday in Jozi we took a peek into the world of Youth Marketing with Andrea Kraushaar from Youth Dynamix and Marc Kornberger from Student Village. With a turn out of more than 50 guests, we sure enjoyed seeing all the new faces including people from Deloitte, Quirk eMarketing, FNB, ABSA and the South African National Blood Service. It was also great seeing some familiar faces like Greg Durst from Horizon Equity. Most of the socializing took place on the Balcony at JWT with its beautiful view over Rivonia and great drinks provided by our sponsors Corona, Carlsberg, Perderberg wine and (our latest edition) Glaceau Vitamin Water. Thanks guys.

  5. A thirst-quenching vitamin-rich success story: glaceau vitaminwater Posted in Digital Strategy, Concocted by Fred Roed August 21, 2009

Forgive us if this comes across as a little “advertisey”, but believe me this is a sincere story. Recently we’ve been sponsored by glacéau vitaminwater for the Heavy Chef Sessions we run each month. So, intrigued by this relatively new brand that’s now EVERYWHERE, I scratched below the surface for some tasty tidbits. A while back, Thurlow from thewinwingroup related to me the story of a guy called J. Darius Bikoff, who started a small bottled water company in 1996 after eating a vitamin C wafer on the way to a yoga class.

Amidst serious personal difficulties, Bikoff managed to get the company up and running, and within 5 years the company was the company’s drinks were sold in over 4,000 retail stores in the New York area.

  6. Twitter in South Africa: Investigating the Hype Posted in Branding Online, Digital Strategy, Social Media, Twitter, Concocted by LouisJvR August 19, 2009 3 comments

The hype is there, no doubt.

But I think it’s time to put a stake in the ground and do some research into Twitter’s pervasiveness in South Africa… this is what I could find:

    1. According to research company, Sysomos, South African Twitter users make up 0.85% of total Twitter users (that is the 10th largest usership in the world!)
    2. According to Nielsen Wire Twitter receives an estimate 55 million visits per month (7 mil unique visits)

Based on this, I can make an assumption that SA Twitter users generate 467,500 visits per month (59,500 unique visits).

  7. Facebook And Twitter: Stop Comparing And Spot The Difference Posted in Branding Online, Social Media, Twitter, Concocted by Yolandi Janse van Rensburg August 18, 2009 3 comments

Have you noticed how many posts have popped up comparing Facebook and Twitter?  One thing I agree with is that they are both social media platforms and that they are both tremendously successful – but that’s it. I find it odd that people would compare features, target audience and value. These aspects could be looked at but one thing that you need to take into consideration is that these two phenomena have different goals and that’s why I say they should not be compared.

  8. Weather.com’s mobi site shows potential in mobile web Posted in Mobile Marketing, Website Usability, Concocted by LouisJvR August 17, 2009

    Always a hot topic: ‘Mobi-sites’

We know just about every person in this world owns a handset. We know the majority of mobile devices can access the web. But the question still comes up over-and-over again, how many people actually use their handsets to access the web?

We’ve asked some leaders in the field of Youth Marketing to come and share some insights with us.

  11. The first Heavy Chef “Creating Profitable Websites” Course starts Posted in Heavy Chef News, Website Design, Website Usability, Concocted by Fred Roed August 12, 2009 2 comments

Today is a big day for The Heavy Chef Project in that it marks the first day of the first ever digital marketing course run by the Heavy Chef’s in our digital kitchen.
