It occurred to me whilst clearing out my Google Reader from the past few days that blogs  containing over 20 new posts I skipped, and pressed the "mark all as read" button.

It is strange because I usually read these blogs and find them more useful than some blogs that I actually read this morning. All blogs that had a couple of posts I took the time to scan over the content.

Thinking back, a couple of months ago I signed up to a blog after reading a good post, now due to the increased posting (102 in a week) I never read them, maybe because I am subconsciously fed up with the vast amount that come in everyday. Once again I am confused with my methods because I read blogs that are less of an interest to me, but read them because they post 1 a day or every 2 days.

So, is there such as thing as blogging to much?

I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on this, especially if your actions are the same as mine.

    Hi Nicola

    Finding new blogs and subscribing to them can indeed fill your reader up pretty quickly – and time flies, as we all know, prioritising tasks everyday.

    What I normally do when I find an interesting article on a ‘new’ blog I ‘drop’ the new subscription into a ’specially’ folder in my reader: Trials.
    If this blog continuous to be interesting it gets ‘promoted’ and leaves the trail folder. I’ve also created a folder named: infrequent, where blogs end up in – as the name suggests – when the blogger posts infrequently. This way the left hand column in my reader stays’ readable i.e. not too long.

    And yes, when a blog in my reader stops being of interest I unsubscribe, simple.

    I agree with Karin. It seems as if there’s a lot of blogs out there that bomb us with a load of diluted articles. This tends to happen when

    a) the blogger gets a whiff of increased traffic and feels that the audience demands more so he / she must supply more
    b) the blogger gives up his / her day job and goes pro

    It’s an interesting question, especially when the most successful ‘blogs’ seem to be those that post most regularly and many times a day (Engadget, TechCrunch etc). I know as a relatively new blogger I am to scared not to post daily, in case I lose the readership, so your points and the comments that are received is going to be read by me with great interest.

    Hi Eishman

    Main reason why readers stay subscribed to your blog has to be your content and consistency in content. So: quality before quantity.

    Presume you have FeedBurner? (Handy to check your amount of ‘daily’ readers). If so, why don’t you do a test and post twice a week to see if there’s a significant drop in readers? Might put your mind to rest ;-)
