18 September 2014 marked the second Heavy Chef session at World Wide Creative’s brand new venue in Cape Town. The event featured Luke Townsin, Twitter’s Head of Brand Strategy (Multinational EMEA) who spoke about the major trends in content consumption and what can be called the “mobile stream.”
Luke’s presentation put the spotlight on parallel consumption or “meerkatting,” as the new way in which consumers are experiencing and interacting with content. According to Luke, 50% of consumers use their phones while they commute, while 60% use their mobiles while they’re watching TV. It’s digital multi-tasking.
With the continuous stream of new content, companies and individuals need to keep their messages brief and remove any friction between the content and the consumer. It’s all about grabbing the attention of the right people, at the right time, for the right amount of time.
For those of you who didn’t get onto the guest list in time or for those who wish to be re-enlightened by Luke’s compelling presentation, watch this space for the official event video.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our wine sponsors, Backsberg for bringing conviviality to the event once again and to Nokia SA for sponsoring the Lumia 1320 that was awarded to a very appreciative @captainGrimmy on the night.
Also, thanks once again to Channel Mobile for keeping our guests up to date with the details of the event via SMS.
See you all at the next one!
