I cringed today when I saw the parent site of one of my client's sites for the first time, complete with pointless intro and no indication of any content beyond clicking on it. Also consider that visually-driven intro pages (not necessarily Flash) offer very little (if any) SEO value, which ties in with your advice of first getting the user to the content and then providing the option for them to view whatever it is you feel necessary.
