Wednesday night we had an incredible Heavy Chef Session at Deloitte Offices in Woodmead. We were very happy to see such a large crowd and especially all the new faces who joined us. Nic Haralambous provided spectacular insights into the world of mobile and the opportunities it offers us regarding emerging markets.

We had loads of people ask very interesting questions, thanks guys. Also, it was great to see our Jozi crowd enjoy the Coronas and Backsberg wines (did you notice their new Tread Lightly range in PET bottles) to warm them up on such a cold night.

We were amazed and very happy to see a record number of tweets come through and people engaging with our speakers and each other online. Here are some highlights on the tweets that were posted last night:

@Ben_Matjiu - #fact: nokia owns the African market. Happy Africa Day #nokiasa

@Za5 - Not sure if that howling that we hear during @nicharry’s #HeavyChef presentation is the wind outside or Windows on the #NokiaSA prize phone

@Jodzk - Most people would rather spend their last R10 on airtime than on bread..sad but true @nicharry @heavychef #nokiasa”

@Jodzk – Go where no one else will go, do what no one else will do…reach the emerging markets and win @heavychef #nokiasa

@Rafedyer – Grow a mobile community by making it exclusive…counter intuitive but too true @nicharry @heavychef #nokiasa

@NickJackson – Motribe growing by 12k users a day, globally. @nicharry’s beard probably 12mm a day. #heavychef #nokiasa

@Jodzk – 420 million mobile devices sold in the first quarter in 2011…So much for face2face conversations, its a digital world @heavychef #nokiasa

@CraigRodney – “Mobile gives you access to billions of people you didn’t even know you wanted.” – @nicharry at @heavychef #nokiaSA!

@AndrewShawZA – South African digital frontier: device usage – Desktop 19.8% Mobile 19 – 25%. Big question what % have beards? #heavychef #nokiaSA

And finally, congratulations to Philip Santos for winning a Nokia E7 for his winning tweet of the night, from our newest sponsor, Nokia South Africa.
