Last night we were privileged to witness our old buddy Dave Duarte share some views, thoughts and ideas on Social Media in South Africa.
We outgrew the World Wide Creative studio for this session, which was held at a new venue after a huge increase of interest over the past 2 months. It was a great success, with Hatfields Restaurant in Gardens providing us with a perfect balance of privacy, space and good service (with Alison and Colin doing a sterling job of looking after us - thanks guys!)
We will be sharing some video footage of the event in a short while, but here are some snaps in the meantime…

Above: Dave pouring scorn on a stupid question.

Above: a riveted audience, including Andrea Broome and Bruce Snaddon from Cape Peninsula University of Technology; Shane Dryden from Yuppiechef.co.za; Patrick from Justtheplanet.com; Chris Beech (Flash programmer supremo); Rob Maconochie and Gavin Mandel from Channel Mobile; Kent from IT Direct.

Above: more riveted and engaged audience, with Rowan filming diligently in the background.

Above: …and more riveted audience, struggling to stop themselves rushing the stage. By now, Dave’s rugged good looks, rapier wit and manly intellect was causing problems.

Above: we sent in Mike to cool things down. Thanks Mike.

Above: Things were back to normal after that.

Above: Dave showed us a great example of integration of traditional media and social media with the Peugeot 107 campaign - which you can view here.

Above: Kent from IT Direct, loving it.

Above: Mike telling the one about the Mexican, the Iranian and the Venezuelan to Rob and Diana Rankin (from HRadvice.co.za)

Above: Elaine from UCT GSB, swapping war stories with Bruce and Andrea from CPUT’s graphic design faculty.
Thanks to all who contributed to the evening, including Rowan, World Wide Creative’s legendary studio manager who did much of the behind the scenes stuff to make it happen. A huge thanks, once again, to the legendary Mr Duarte, for providing us with some meaty marketing fare. See you soon, Dave!
P.S. Don’t forget the next Session with Phil Barrett (from Flow Interactive), who will be talking all about usability on websites. Not one to miss, see you there! Email us if you’d like to attend.
