Staying ahead of the game when it comes to your online community is sometimes very time consuming. Not only time consuming but with users across the globe in different time zones talking about your brand at all hours of the day, you might struggle to keep up! That’s where keeping track of everything that is being said at all times is crucial to community management.

Using Online Reputation Management (ORM), you are able to monitor what is being said 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some ORM tools give you the ability to SMS your high priority mentions such as really negative situations that sometimes could spread online within minutes if not dealt with quickly enough.
Also keeping a tab on all mentions allows you to derive a sense of when users are most active online when it comes to engaging with your brand.
ORM also allows you to stay in touch with trends that your web community might be interested in. This once again highlights the fact that keeping in touch with your community at all times is crucial to building on the initial hard work of getting that community going! Sharing interesting stats, links and information with them further grows your reputation which can only benefit you in the long run.
ORM is a really powerful tool for not only managing your reputation online, but also for community management!

If my market is really focused on South Africa, do I really need to concerns myself with what people in the US, UK, Asia might or might not be saying about my product?
I understand this is important, but how do you juggle the stresses and time constraints of launching something with very little capital and no income while attempting to not loose the job paying your rent, and trying to figure out what your online reputation is or protect it?
Can one find free software for this if you have no cash or is it a case of hope you don’t piss someone off that has the power to snuff you out before you begin?
@eylanh If your market is 100% SA based, then you’ll probably find that no one in overseas markets knows or talks about you! So yeah, I wouldn’t worry.
@Rory Berry It’s all about hussling! You going to have to work hard to get whatever you are doing to launch, especially if its an after-hours gig. In that regard, I wouldn’t primarily worry about your Online Reputation, rather get your product to market first.
There are free tools available that can help such as Google Alerts and some of the ORM tools I’ve mentioned do have very affordable options on the lower end.
Jason,
Hussling has become a large part of my life! We are doing all we can to get our product to market and those that have experienced it seem to be appreciating it.
We are looking forward to the day that our online reputation is too important to be ignored any longer.
In my humble and hopeful opinion its coming soon
Awesome stuff Rory! Make sure you send us the info once it’s ready. I’d dig to check it out!
I am not sure if I am allowed to mention my site here, so don’t want to upset the proverbial applecart, but it is live if you wish to wander around on it. I think by clicking on my name you get there.
This tech adventure is great, I just sometimes must come across as such a newbie!
Enthusiasm and a passion for what I am doing should hopefully compensate for it
It seems like a matter of knowing your strategy and prioritising. In South Africa consumers are becoming smarter and more internet savvy so we still got to hear what they are saying, respond and engage.
