There has been exciting news in the world of digital publishing about Kno’s new product Smart Links. Kno is an e-textbook publisher which has announced that it will be integrating tutorial videos from Khan Academy into its books. This will mean getting an interactive experience while trying to understand those complex calculus equations presented by The Academy.

Smart Links has been developed to helps students when dealing with complex concepts by providing an interactive aspect to it. This is not limited to videos but can also includes images or websites. Smart links is inline with the Kno brand which has a mission “to shake up higher education by making learning engaging, efficient, and social for students”. This shows that the digital publishing world can provide a different texture to the reading and learning experience compared to the traditional publishing ways. The learners can grapple with complex concepts while receiving further information that simplifies the concept without needing a teacher.

Enter the Khan Academy that has interactive content to increase the engagement levels of students. The Khan Academy has been the first site to have its content linked but soon, even more content will be integrated. It has delivered over 71 million lessons on various subjects. It has been endorsed by Bill Gates who states that the 12 minute videos are a start of a revolution. This partnership between Kno and Khan Academy will help more learners in an interactive mannerwhile changing the teaching landscape as we know it.

    It is an exciting initiative which is not limited to people with ipad or laptop. You can use the books via Facebook which is available to most South Africans that means the books will also be stored there.
