We were privileged enough to host Alan Knott-Craig Jr, CEO of Mxit, at our Johannesburg and Cape Town event. In his relaxed presentation, Alan revealed that there are 50 million active Mxit users, spread across 126 countries including Africa, Syria, America, Indonesia and Zimbabwe. Amazingly, there are no offices outside the heart of Stellenbosch. Mxit sends 800 million messages a day – three times the amount of messages sent by Twitter, globally. And all of Mxit’s growth has been purely word of mouth.
Although Alan admits there are plenty of risks, he is willing to take them, because the worst case scenario when shooting for the moon – is landing amongst the stars.
