  1. Emerging Markets are No Longer the Weakest Link Posted in Emerging Markets, Concocted by Lauren Potgieter May 9, 2011

Emerging markets is a term that is becoming more widely used as we see a shift with developing countries, watching them move into a more powerful position as they grow at a rapid pace, therefore being more desirable to other first world economies. Read Further

  2. Is Mobile Overhyped in Africa? Posted in Emerging Markets, Mobile Marketing, Concocted by Agnes Sokol January 28, 2011 2 comments

2010 seems to have been the year of mobile media. At every turn, we were bombarded with statistics on mobile networks, ideas for new mobile campaigns and the overarching message that without incorporating mobile strategy, we were somehow missing out. The craze of mobile media was heard loud and clear but it has lead me to wonder whether it is properly deserved. In Africa, is mobile truly critical or if has it been overhyped as the must-have technology this past year? Read Further

It’s that time of the year again where every digital marketing expert/guru/genius/yoda/messiah will shout from the hilltops on what they think the digital marketing trends for 2010 will be.

(do a search on 2010 digital marketing trends and you’ll get the picture)

A lot of noise indeed and often lacking context I believe… Read Further

  4. Review: Heavy Chef Session on Youth Marketing Posted in Heavy Chef News, Videos, Concocted by Yolandi Janse van Rensburg August 31, 2009

At the Heavy Chef Session last Wednesday in Jozi we took a peek into the world of Youth Marketing with Andrea Kraushaar from Youth Dynamix and Marc Kornberger from Student Village. With a turn out of more than 50 guests, we sure enjoyed seeing all the new faces including people from Deloitte, Quirk eMarketing, FNB, ABSA and the South African National Blood Service. It was also great seeing some familiar faces like Greg Durst from Horizon Equity. Most of the socializing took place on the Balcony at JWT with its beautiful view over Rivonia and great drinks provided by our sponsors Corona, Carlsberg, Perderberg wine and (our latest edition) Glaceau Vitamin Water. Thanks guys.

  5. Twitter in South Africa: Investigating the Hype Posted in Branding Online, Digital Strategy, Social Media, Twitter, Concocted by LouisJvR August 19, 2009 3 comments

The hype is there, no doubt.

But I think it’s time to put a stake in the ground and do some research into Twitter’s pervasiveness in South Africa… this is what I could find:

    1. According to research company, Sysomos, South African Twitter users make up 0.85% of total Twitter users (that is the 10th largest usership in the world!)
    2. According to Nielsen Wire Twitter receives an estimate 55 million visits per month (7 mil unique visits)

Based on this, I can make an assumption that SA Twitter users generate 467,500 visits per month (59,500 unique visits).

  9. Marketers, Get Your Digital Shift Together! Posted in Branding Online, Digital Strategy, Concocted by Fred Roed December 1, 2008

Marketing agencies can be forgiven for feeling a little insecure right now. Across the globe, scores of well-manicured fingernails are being gnawed to the quick. Friday afternoon champagne and sushi parties are being traded in for toasted sarmies; and the lines of coke have made way for lines of worry.

At a time like this, we can take heart from Chuck Norris. “I thought Credit Crunch was a new breakfast cereal,” said Chuck recently.  Read Further
