New to Facebook

Just a fad, will not last long, and it is going to be shut down. After a few months of refusing to join Facebook, I thought I would give it a try to the relief of my family and work colleagues.

Over the past week there has been quite a few news posts in the blog world about companies who are stopping the use of Facebook within their offices. I can now see this is quite understandable with the amount of time that can be wasted. Whilst signing up yesterday I noticed the following:

Facebook asks for your work email address. It would probably be more appropriate for them to ask for your email address, and not persuade people to use their work email. Of course this depends on your views on whether private emails should be received and sent during work time. I come from an accounting background, where we were not allowed to send out any emails, and all emails had to go through management but Im sure a happy medium can be found.

I would like to see in Facebook an option to include a maiden name so I could be called both Nicola Perk and Nicola Philpott. Many of my friends have also come across this problem with Facebook, and some have even set up 2 profiles. I tried to change my name to Nicola Perk (Philpott) but brackets are not allowed. I know I probably could remove the brackets, but I would not like people to think that I have chosen to have a double-barrelled name.

- Nicola
