Mashable posted a very interesting article a few days ago on the amount of tweets coming from our phones. The estimation was 40% of all tweets are coming from mobile phones.
“At CES, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo revealed that 40% of all tweets come from mobile devices, demonstrating mobile’s increasing importance to the social media company.”
“Twitter mobile usage exploded with the release of the company’s official iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry apps. The mobile web site, SMS, Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for BlackBerry are the most popular Twitter apps after the company’s website.”
These statements are definitely something to take notice of. I think the fact that Twitter takes place in real time and people aren’t in front of the laptops every minute of every day – people are engaging online whilst lying on the beach or having dinner with friends. This is where the importance of mobile phones and social networking abilities come in – people are already using these daily so now the question is “how can you as a brand take advantage of the mobile market?

In the UK estimates put Twitter and Facebook usage via mobiles at something like 60%.
