I think the consensus was reached quite early on this one. The heavy chef project over the last month has shown that My Space can be used as a tool to grow interest in your product or service, however we feel it is only for specific types of product or service.
Those in the arts such as musicians, book writers and artists can use My Space to great effect, but they must remember it still needs some form of strategic approach to fight through the noise of every other artist and musician.
It could also work if your buyer is in a particular niche with regards to interests or hobbies. A seller of specialised tools for model airplane enthusiasts could easily track down his customers and not only impart advise, but start to understand exactly what their needs are.
But in both cases the one thing we have certainly learnt this month is it takes time and effort. Its not about placing yourself up there and then sitting back and watching the money role in. You have to become accepted (liked even) and in the same way as it happens inn everyday life, you have to become trusted.

p.s. with regards the competition between Fred and I to see who could make the most friends, it only goes to highlight the point I just made above. Without the effort to get out there you won’t get any friends. I have one and Fred has two, making him the winner. I feel ashamed, but when we started this project I didn’t realise that it would become more of an academic study of My Space (thats just the way the heavy chef project goes sometimes). When it really should have been one of immersion.
