Johannesburg’s Business Book Club Is Coming To Cape Town

Once or twice a month between 19h00 and 21h00, The Business Book Club hosts an event in Johannesburg in varying venues around Sandton and Fourways. Now, The Business Book Club is launching a new Cape Town chapter. At the first event in Cape Town, Jacques will be chatting with entrepreneur and public speaker Richard Mulholland about his book: Legacide: Why Legacy Thinking is the Silent Killer of Innovation.

Each month, a guest author is invited to showcase their book and share their knowledge. Through conversation with the author, interaction with the audience, and networking with entrepreneurs, knowledge is gathered on how to grow and change in the business environment and to gain leadership skills.

According to Velleman the entrance fee is a pre-loved (business) book donation.

The first profiled author for The Business Book Club in Cape Town is Rich Mulholland, a seven-time Heavy Chef speaker. Richard is a larger than life Innovator, Lecturer, Writer, Entrepreneur and Business Owner.

Richard kicked off his career as a Rock ‘n’ Roll roadie, operating lights for bands such as Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and Cliff Richard.

From there he started South Africa’s largest presentation firm, Missing Link, and co-founded Innovation Lab, 21Tanks and digital agency Firing Squad.

Richard is a highly regarded speaker. When not addressing many of South Africa’s top corporations, he has guest lectured on courses for the Cape’s Graduate School of Business (GSB), and the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). He also writes frequent columns for many magazines including Longevity and Destiny Man.

Once a week, Rich pops into the CliffCentral studio for his Reality Check session with Gareth Cliff to help them solve an annoying problem, cut through the cr*p and make sense of the nonsense.

Why Legacy thinking is the silent killer of innovation!

Innovation is not about changing your product, it’s about changing your mindset. It’s not about doing something new, it’s about stopping doing something old. Basically, this entire book rehashes these two lines in as many ways as ground-breaking (if you dropped him off a high platform wearing heavy shoes) business thinker Richard Mulholland was able to do in around 120 pages. That said, changing the legacy mindset is not easy, but hot-damn, it’s worthwhile. Legacide hopes to do just that.
