“It is interesting for every international operating startup with a digital business-model and a focus on the European market.”
Jessica Berg, Project and Event manager of Hamburg@work explained what makes Hamburg such an attractive destination for our young entrepreneurs.
“In the middle of northern Germany lies the metropolitan region of Hamburg. Hamburg records almost 100,000 new arrivals per year,” said Berg, “including many founders with fresh ideas what makes the Hanseatic city one of the hotspots of the German start-up scene. Hamburg is one of the most competitive regions in Germany and Europe.”
“Due to its geographical position and easy accessibility by water, road, rail and air, Hamburg is an outstanding logistical hub in world trade and the most important logistics location in Northern Europe. It has a thriving digital scene and beside logistics and mobility, it is an international powerhouse for future industries such as aviation, media, fintech, e-commerce, life sciences, renewable energies and creative industries (especially gaming!). In addition, Hamburg is one of the cities with the highest quality of life in the world and always achieved good placements in rankings of Mercer or The Economist.”
The FUTURE HAMBURG AWARD was launched on Thursday, 30 August in London as part of a B2B event for UK investors and startups. The event builds on a long tradition of close relations between the UK and Hamburg, including strong links within the VC and tech industries.
Hamburg: gateway to the European market
The City of Hamburg has one of the best startup ecosystems in Europe. The city boasts one of the highest startup rates in Germany and is home to successful international players, among them Jimdo, MyTaxi, and Xing. Tech giants such as Google, Facebook and Twitter have their Central European head offices here. Hamburg has been Germany’s leading location for the media and creative industries for decades. As Hamburg is an international powerhouse for future industries such as aviation, life sciences, and logistics, the city offers an ideal business environment for startups from various industries.
“It is interesting for every international operating startup with a digital business-model and a focus on the European market,” continued Jessica Berg. “The winner will be invited to Hamburg to get a high-class coaching and networking opportunity as well as a five-digit media package. If you want to scale in Europe this award will help you to succeed.”
Hamburg’s startup ecosystem can draw from strong VCs as well as a wealth of accelerator and startup programmes with tightly knit international business networks. The FUTURE HAMBURG AWARD is part of such network, with jury members from the Airbus BizLab, the Next Commerce Accelerator, the Next Logistics Accelerator, as well as media support from OMR.
The award was initiated by Hamburg Marketing and Hamburg Invest. The award will be launched as part of the HAMBURG FESTIVAL of Hamburg on Tour, a one-of-a-kind pop-up event in Shoreditch aimed at showcasing one of the world’s most liveable cities through its vibrant music and festival scene.
