Heleen Mills: How A Social Influencer Campaign Reached 1 Billion People

Heleen Mills is a bubbly, effusive character. Whip-smart, with a radiant smile, Heleen regaled 300 people in Cape Town at the March 2018 Heavy Chef social influencer-themed event, at Workshop 17, V&A Waterfront. Heleen related her journey alongside the phenomenal Mina Guli, the world-famous water-activist who is trying to raise global awareness around the impending water crisis our humble planet is facing. In 2014, Mina did something extraordinary. She ran 40 marathons in 40 days, tracing the world's greatest rivers - and initiating one of the digital industry's most iconic influencer campaigns to boot. At the time, Heleen was tasked by African education / advisory firm Treeshake to project manage the social media component of Mina's quest. On the Heavy Chef stage, Heleen manages to capture the essence of the task in a heart-warming, funny and essential presentation.
