Siyabonga Wilson Mbaba, founder of Ghetto Sessions and Project Manager at Heavy Chef has hosted over forty Ghetto Sessions events since its inception in 2017 and comments, "Our aim for this incredible platform is that creative entrepreneurs will be able to collaborate, network and promote their wares to a diverse audience."

“For far too long,” says Mbaba, “Khayelitsha has fallen prey to bad press, with the result being a deep sense of fear and estrangement in the hearts of many Capetonians. We want to shine positive sentiment on Khayelitsha, and bridge the gap between the variety of cultures in Cape Town.”

While Fred Roed, CEO of Heavy Chef, says, "I am exceptionally excited about the Raw series of experiences. These events are unique in that they merge the learning component of Heavy Chef with the entertainment aspect of Ghetto Sessions. Siya is a latent entrepreneur talent in his own right, and we all have high expectations of his remarkable community-building abilities."

The Heavy Chef Raw launch is taking place on August 3rd, 2019 at Bandwidth Barn, situated at Lookout Hill Tourism Centre in Khayelitsha. These facilities are the ideal location for the event, providing a captivating meeting place for both locals and tourists. Bandwidth Barn, a project of CiTi, drives inclusive innovation and supports local community enterprises. Various vendors from Khayelitsha will be selling and promoting their products on the day, including; Sikis Koffee Kafe, Ekhaya Brewery, Ukhamba Beerworx, Mayine Gin, Khayelitsha's Finest Wines, and Orgasmic Guwalo.

Through educational and inspirational performances by SA's leading creatives, Heavy Chef Raw provides immersive experiences that empower Khayelitsha entrepreneurs in the business of creativity. Networking opportunities and direct access to emerging talent allow potential funders to tap into Khayelitsha's unique energy.

The celebrities performing at Heavy Chef Raw are well recognized with valuable messages to share with the audience.

“The community is looking forward to the launch,” says Mbaba. “Zolani Mahola from Freshly Ground and Dj Thulani ‘Fosta' Headman, co-founder of Bridges For Music, will take to the stage. They will be tailoring their presentations to relay their own creative journeys through a combination of story-telling and performance.”

Throughout the day’s agenda, local artists will have the opportunity in the limelight with open mic sessions and exhibitions that showcase their abilities. Danilo Acquisto and Thulani Headman lead the educational segment, and another Bridges For Music co-founder, Trenton from Trenton & Free Radicals, will be closing the show.
