> 1. WHO CAN APPLY TO HEAVY CHEF FOUNDATION?

Our ambition is to grow the Foundation's presence across Africa. For now, we are only accepting applications in South Africa. So, if you are a start-up founder or founding team based in South Africa (or willing to relocate here), then feel free to click through to our Apply section and send us a mail.

> 2. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

The Heavy Chef Foundation is funded through various private and NGO partners. This money is used to pay for you attending our programme. We're very appreciative of our partners, however what this does mean is that we can only accept a specific number of applications throughout the year, depending on the degree of funding we are able to attract.

> 3. HOW MUCH TIME WILL THIS REQUIRE OF ME AS A FOUNDER?

We understand that the idea of a months-long-put-your-life-on-hold-bootcamp-accelerator is both scary and frankly unproductive to you being able to fully pay attention and grow your business. Heavy Chef believes that success sits in the "do-ing", it is our view that you should be spending as much time as possible working in and on your start-up. It is for this reason that you can start the programme any time, end it at any time, attend as much as your start-up allows - your degree of involvement is entirely up to you. We trust the quality of our learning engagements and the value you will get out of them, and if you do, we believe you will make time to attend as many as you can.

> 4. WHAT IS THE SELECTION CRITERIA?

We are open to almost any type of business, but the ones we're particulalry interested in have a technology-side to them, is an early stage start-up, has a bit of customer traction to show and off course is driven by entrepreneurs with heart.

> 5. IF SELECTED, WHEN DO WE START?

Ours is a year-long programme designed for you to start at any point, and follow the programme over a 12 month period regardless on which month you start. So, if you start in June 2018, the programme ends for you May 2019.

> 6. HOW IS THE PROGRAMME STRUCTURED?

To align with our ethos that a programme like this has to fit your schedule, rather than you needing to fit the programme's schedule, our programme consists of numerous engagements that is entirely up to you to decide what and when to attend - including:

  • 12 workshops (1 per month) - that provide more formal learning engagements.
  • Monthly inspirational events.
  • Meet & greets with potential partners, investors & customers.
  • Local and international tours visiting and learning from entrepreneurs who've "been there, done that".
  • Speaking and interview opportunities through various Heavy Chef and partner content platforms.
  • One-on-one mentoring opportunities

> 7. WHAT DO I GET AT THE END OF THE PROGRAMME? AM I EVALUATED In ANY WAY?

If you are asking, is there some kind of exam or test at the end of the programme? No. Founders who attend our programme have one goal in mind: to take an idea and create and grow it into a profitable business. Heavy Chef Foundation is all about making sure that, that goal is achieved.

Throughout the programme however, we have some of the world's most astute entrepreneurs and investors, keeping an eye on you, looking for opportunities to partner with you if what you are creating resonates with them. It is access to these very special group of people that can provide you with significant jumps to scale. Our goal is to help you get to a place where these partnerships form organically based on value being delivered.

*We do give you a special Heavy Chef gift at the end of the programme, but this serves more as a reminder to always keep learning, doing and sharing on your path to mastery. :)

> 8. DO YOU INVEST IN AND PROVIDE FUNDING TO START-UPS?

Yes, very much so. Through our own investment company, Glengarry, we co-invest with VC & Private Equity Firms, angel investors and other independent funding partners where we see opportunity. The structure of these investments differ from conversation to conversation, but typically we will invest an amount in the business in return for an equity stake and a seat on your board to help guide the growth of your start-up without taking away the independence of you as the founder/founding team.
