About This Recipe

Employers, community managers and even parents have one question in common: how do we get young people to engage in life, work, society? For Dimpho Lekgeu, community manager at Youth Lab, the answer is simple (though not to be confused with easy to implement): listen, educate and meet them where they’re at.

In this recipe, Dimpho uses her Youth Lab experiences to shed light on what a community manager is and the special brand of creativity that should be part of such a person’s skill set. She talks us through the elements of a community strategy, shares the three tools she relies on to make her job easier and reveals a few secrets to the art of moderating a conversation.

Dimpho also discusses why qualitative feedback is at least as important as analytics numbers when it comes to measuring community success, and reminds us again and again that transformative conversations start with clarity about the outcome they are meant to achieve.
