The first is learning about the science behind how human beings work and think, and what the science behind persuasion and influence is. The second layer is skill, I can give you the skill, but if I haven't taught you science, then your mindset will hold you back  and the third part is arts, I love speaking for the art form that it is. As much as I give you formulas, I'm not creating robots, you must be unique.

I just listen to individuals and their internal talk. When I work with individuals, that science part is actually the key to unlocking a person's potential before that confidence kicks in. Then I can layer in skill and then their personality comes through. That's when you see people being speakers in their own lives.

The first one is that people fear speaking. The second one is internal talk. A lot of people have this internal dialogue that's going on in their head and because they question themselves or underestimate their ability and the last one is holding on to this notion of being perfect. I find a lot of people are scared to speak because they're waiting for perfection.

The three qualities without a doubt is, number one, you need to be a natural speaker and not a theatrical speaker. The second quality is to be a selfless speaker and not a selfish speaker and the third aspect is that as a speaker, you need to embrace failures along the way. I call it experience, you might want to call it failed experiments.

The first aspect is to understand that speaking is a journey and not a destination. It’s not something you do for a day or two or one month and you're done. It's a journey. When you accept that it's a journey, it becomes a different experience because you are constantly learning and growing.

Brand messaging is one of those concepts, where if you ask 10 people in a room, you'll get 10 different answers. Depending on the perspective, it can actually deflect what your customers really want to know about you. I've learned that in order to connect with my audience, I need to share more stories about myself with them, not just general stories, but stories connected to my brand and messaging, stories of what I'm passionate about.

It's me connecting to where they are right now, through my own story, that makes it possible for them to do it.

The first step is to change the language in your head so that pitching doesn't put pressure on you. When you take the pressure out of your pitch by having a dialogue with your audience, the serving part of you takes precedence. Then you layer that with your understanding of the unique needs of the audience and you change your opening to align with those needs.

I’ve learnt two things from failure. The first is that failure is just feedback. The second thing that I've learnt is that I love and embrace being the underdog, the one who was not meant to succeed, the one with the stats against her. My strategy on overcoming failure and obstacles is to remember that failure is feedback and that embracing the underdog helps me succeed.
