I like to do work that's impactful. I've always wanted to look at problems and solve them, and be able to say we were here and we are there now. That's the passion for me, that we can actually do some cool things, solve some real problems and make a living using tools that are right there in front of us, and it's not that hard to do. So I love that about software.

The business domains have more or less stayed the same, but technology brings this ability to connect us, crunch large volumes of data and solve these age old problems in interesting and powerful ways. And it's fun. So that's the role I see myself as, as this translator that sits in the middle and brings technology to bear in amplifying business intent.

Opportunities lie everywhere if you count the fact that over 60 000 jobs in software are unfilled.

Using the internet for opportunities to learn how to code. Simple games like Scratch, are great for newbies, don't be afraid to play. Keep in mind that once reading and writing was exclusive. The same applies to coding, everyone will be able to speak the language one day.

Your willingness to start is, in itself, a great sign. It's easy to get carried away with the tech - but remember that the tech is there to support the business and not the other way round. Don't over-engineer - keep it simple and only add on when the strategy absolutely calls for it.

At the least, a developer should have the skillset you require plus great communication skills. Look at yourself and say, I'm an entrepreneur and I've come up with this idea and I've nurtured this to this point. Respect your ideas, respect your own agency and value your own ideas, and then engage with people in the team that you feel like we can collaborate.

It's vital that you're on the same page and that everyone understands things the same way. Make frequent check-ins to make sure that the plan remains the same and no one is diverging

There are a few places. I would encourage people to go to recruiting agencies, like OfferZen, that is very focused on developers and that take the time to vet the quality of developers and are very invested in building community and skills of developers

In this future, we'll b able to solve problems using tech and everyone will be a part of the solution. It gives us the inclusion because when people look at problems, they know enough about technology to see how it can unlock them. And so that's how I see the developers of the future.

The user should take centre-stage in your strategy. What are their needs and how can you design your platform to cater to them? Factors to keep in mind are the devices they use and access to data - match your app to their requirements.
